Abstract

The Constitutional Court of Colombia legalized in Colombia the practice of euthanasia (Decision C 239, 1997). Decision T 970, 2014, of the same Court, and Decree 1216, 2015 (issued by Health Secretary), established specific provisions, among which the recognition of conscientious objection. However, the new rules recognize this right only to the physician that performs euthanasia. Others (medical and administrative staff) are excluded. Similar limitation is established to private health institutions. Actually, it is not recognized their right to act according to religious or ethical principles that are contrary to euthanasia.
