English Studies in Latin America: A Journal of Cultural and Literary Criticism (ESLA) is a digital journal hosted by the Department of Literature in the Faculty of Letters, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.  As a journal dedicated to publishing critical and creative writing in English from Latin America, we seek original work that reflects the diversity of worlds in this language. As Chinua Achebe reminds us, English allows people to read beyond a country’s borders and it has also been forcefully imposed on many. The spectrum in between these points, the bright and dark sides of globalization and colonization, demands our critical attention from this part of the world.

ESLA provides a platform for writers of academic and creative genres. In the academic section, we are interested in critical readings and interpretations of literary productions of culture in English and we prioritize academic contributions from the following critical approaches: comparative and intersectional studies, postcolonial studies, cultural and gender studies, bilingualism and translation studies. In our Fiction section we are interested in poetry and short stories and in our Non-Fiction section we publish essays, interviews and we are open to innovative digital creations.English Studies in Latin America: A Journal of Cultural and Literary Criticism (ESLA) is a digital journal hosted by the Department of Literature in the Faculty of Letters, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.  As a journal dedicated to publishing critical and creative writing in English from Latin America, we seek original work that reflects the diversity of worlds in this language.
